ADU Construction in Stevenson Ranch
Stevenson Ranch ADUs with a Class A roof, metal gutters and downspouts drained clear of both foundations, permitted through Los Angeles County.
Rain on a Stevenson Ranch ADU roof needs a planned way down and out, and the roof itself needs to give embers no foothold. We set a simple gable or shed at the pitch of the main house, finish it with a Class A covering, and run metal gutters with metal guards. Downspouts drain to splash blocks or a gravel infiltration pit placed well away from the footings of both buildings.
Permits through Los Angeles County
Stevenson Ranch is unincorporated, so Los Angeles County reviews the building permit. Where state fire hazard mapping includes the parcel, the reviewer checks the unit's skin from top to bottom: roofing, eave enclosure, vent screening, cladding, glazing and any attached deck. Drainage gets reviewed on the same set. Water from the new roof has to stay on the property and move away from foundations, so the plans mark each downspout, its outlet and the path that water follows across the yard.
Roof lines borrowed from an older house
Where the main house is older, its roof often carries the character: a deep overhang, exposed rafter tails, a pitch that suits its proportions. The unit repeats the pitch and overhang. In a mapped fire area the rafter tails are boxed in where the ember rules require it, so the look survives in a form that resists embers. We also trace where the house roof drains now. A new building placed in that path needs the existing downspouts rerouted, and that work is part of our scope.

ADU Construction in Stevenson Ranch: common questions
With numbers first. The panel's rating and spare room, the water meter and supply size, and a camera view of the sewer lateral go into one summary before the floor plan is drawn. If the house still has a small panel or aging supply pipe, the scope lists those upgrades ahead of the tie-in.
When the slab, footings and framing pass inspection, a conversion is a practical path. On a mapped fire lot the wide garage door opening is framed in and finished with ember-resistant cladding and a window, and the roof covering is replaced with a Class A product. If too much of the shell would need replacing, a new build on that footprint makes more sense.
Begin at the top. The unit uses the same roof pitch and a similar overhang, with roofing in a color and texture close to the main house. Siding exposure, window proportion and trim width come next. Paint is taken from the house, and keeping the unit shorter lets the original building stay dominant on the lot.
