Windows and Doors for Older Homes

We decide window by window whether to repair, retrofit or replace, and we match the sash lines, grilles and casing the house was built with.

Repair, retrofit or full frame

A wood window with a sound frame can often be reglazed, given new cords and weatherstripped. A retrofit unit fits inside the existing frame and keeps the casing. A full-frame replacement removes everything back to the framing, which is the right choice when the sill has rotted or the opening is out of square.

Keeping the look of the house

The wrong window changes a facade more than almost any other part. We match the proportions of the sashes, the width of the frame and the grille pattern, and we keep the original exterior trim wherever it is sound, so the new units read as part of the house.

Doors that fit the house

Original front doors are often solid wood worth restoring with new weatherstripping and hardware. Where a new door is needed, or an opening becomes a sliding or hinged patio door, we choose a style and frame that suit the house and flash it correctly.
