Rolling Hills ADU Construction Beside a Solar Array
Rolling Hills ADU construction placed around the older house's solar system: its link to the panel, its inverter on the wall and the sun its panels need.
Solar panels already serving an older Rolling Hills house tie into its electrical panel, and that link limits how the panel can feed a backyard unit. The inverter, disconnect and conduit usually hang on an outside wall, and the panels themselves need sun. We map all of it before placing the unit, so the new building neither shades the array nor lands where its feeder would cross the solar runs.
Sharing a panel with solar
A panel that already takes power back from solar has less room for new breakers, because the electrical code caps the combined current its busbar may carry. When a feeder for the unit would push past that cap, the choices are a larger panel, moving the solar connection ahead of the main breaker, or a meter of its own for the unit. Each choice favors a different spot. A separate meter favors a unit near the street-side service, while a feeder from an upgraded panel favors a short trench from the house wall that holds it.
Keeping the array in sun
On a roof that faces the backyard, a tall unit set close behind the house can shade the lowest rows of panels for part of the year. A sun-path check settles how far back, or how low, the unit has to sit. If the array is mounted on the ground, its frame and buried conduit claim a patch of yard the unit has to keep off. During the build, the inverter and disconnect on the house wall stay reachable and covered from dust. The house's roof, its panels and its original trim are left as they are.

ADU Construction in Rolling Hills: common questions
The solar check comes first, since it decides whether the old panel can feed the unit at all. Water then branches from the house line with its own valve at the unit, and the drain joins the old lateral through a new cleanout once a camera has shown the pipe is sound. Outdoor fittings are chosen to resist damp, salty air.
Often, and a garage already standing rarely changes the shade on the house's panels. Its shell is checked from the slab up: cracks and damp in the floor, a footing under each wall, rafters able to take insulation and a ceiling. The bedroom gets an escape window, and the old door opening is framed in.
Shape first. Pitch and eave depth copied from the main roof do most of the work from across the yard. Its walls then follow the house's stucco texture or siding exposure, its windows keep the original proportions, and the paint comes from the house's own body and trim colors.
